It might surprise some of you but I’m only 21. I own Refuge Design and I’m doing pretty good for myself. God is good, the stars are aligned, and I’m enjoying my life. I’m not saying my life is perfect, far from it, because I’m not perfect. I hope pretty soon that I’ll move to Colorado and find a wife and have a big family (6 kids, minimum). I also hope one day I make enough money to help out my struggling family, pay off their debts, maybe give them a job, but Refuge Design isn’t that big yet.
I also want to help the world, namely Africa. I know I’m not the only one with this desire and I’m not sure how to go about helping them but it’s a burning fire within my heart, that I can’t contain. Sometimes I cry for the country. Now this might sound overly dramatic but I mean every word. While I sit in the comfort of my own home, I know that millions of people are being randomly murdered, raped, sold as sex slaves, beaten, degraded and are treated below their value.
I’m not trying to be a saint or anything like that. I just want justice and grace. Justice to the proud and grace to the weak. This is my passion, not just for Africa but for the world. If I made 100 million dollars a day, I’d do everything in my power to kindle this flame in my heart.
In addition to this, something that motivates me is ideas and visions. I love the idea of starting something, I’m not a finisher but I love getting things rolling. I’m not sure if you’d call this a visionary, pioneer, or whatever. But I love hearing ideas and concepts, even better, I love creating them. Vision casting for clients excites me.
I’m sure there are others that love ideas as well. I get to hear new and great ideas all the time. Hundreds of people tend to share their ideas with me all the time, honestly I love the ideas, then tend to come out of the wood-works because I’m an ‘Internet Marketer’ and ‘Web Designer’
. I just salivate over some ideas because I can immediately see the full potential of their idea and the implications it brings. I can’t really describe any of the ideas I’ve heard because many of them are fantastic and sharing them with you would hurt my friend’s idea and I won’t do that (I hope you wouldn’t either
).
After hearing all of these ideas, I’m initially excited for my friend or someone that I just met but when I follow up with them, the idea tends to die out and become a desire or “dream”. This frustrates the hell out of me. It’s like people enjoy dreaming about their future but not living it. I think too many people just stand still with their “great idea” and just keep it an idea, instead of acting on it and making their dreams come true.
Don’t just drop everything and act on your dreams but make small steady steps to complete it. For example, If your goal is to make a website that tends to a certain niche and make millions of dollars in ads and consulting or something, then take the first step. Buy the domain, get hosting (I suggest ICDsoft.com [aff link]), and start with a template (if your on a budget). Or if you have connections with designers, ask them to make something for you. Then within 2-3 weeks you have your website. That’s a big step. But be persistent, this is your dream, talk to others in your niche, network with them. Be nice, courteous and add value to others and your on your way. Start with interviewing one person and just add more and more. Invite others to write. Just continually add momentum till the velocity of your idea grows beyond you.
Simple put:
The intensity matters, the more steps you complete the faster things will happen but if you can’t quit your day job (don’t quit unless your 100% confident you can survive) take it one step at a time and be consistent. Within 1-2 years your idea should happen and become a reality.
My advice is simply work. Gary Vanyercuk says the same thing and he brought a 4 million dollar company to a 55 million dollar company within a few years. He’s no better than you, he just loves what he does. Do you live for your idea? Does the idea burn in your heart? What’s your dream? What’s your passion? Do it, do it now. You’ll see it manifest, I promise.
My passion is ideas, justice, and grace. I pray for the day that my ideas lead to significant impact to a village and country (my goal is within 7 years). I wanted to share with you my 2 passions because if you have a million-dollar idea, it needs to be a passion of yours. If you don’t believe in it, why would others?
I leave you with Gary’s great presentation at Web 2.0 expo. I stand behind 100% of what he says in this video. =)
