Welcome back!

Hey Folks! Welcome new subscribers.

Earlier today we had a webinar on SEO basics. We had 50 people registered and only 30 people showed up. Some came via Twitter at the last moment. I was hoping for 200, based on the promotions that I planned but many of them fell through at the very last minute and I had no time to maintain them since they were all delegated.

How money was spent:

Some forms of advertising I did were: $100 on LinkedIn and Facebook. In total I spent $450 on this webinar. (If you include the $250 which is an advertising cost. :D ) I didn’t really use Facebook/LinkedIn to get a large amount of registers. I wanted to test out the advertising platforms. I’d say Facebook is where we got 50% of the registers (25; that would be 4$ a register). 100% of LinkedIn money $$ was wasted. Stay away. Seriously. Run away. ;)

Although I had a higher Click Through Rate (CTR) on LinkedIn, conversions were 0. And out of Facebook, I had .03-.04% for CTR. Yet I had around 50% conversions. So, Facebook was some what valuable to an Email Opt-in strategy. Plus, I had a crappy landing page. Which I’m sure could’ve converted at 4 times that it was but it’s partly aside the point I’m trying to make.

I know I could’ve used that 450$ with PPC and got 4-10 times the value from it, but it wasn’t the point of why I spent my money with Facebook and LinkedIn. I wanted to test out their advertising platforms. Facebook sucks but LinkedIn is just horrible.

Next Time, some modifications

My goal for next time around is beef up the attendance to 200+ attendees. Meaning I’ll need about 400-ish registers. If I continue with using Facebook and LinkedIn, I would need to spend close to $1,600, on Facebook ads and just not even begin to waste any money with LinkedIn (please note, I’m not saying LinkedIn is useless, I’m just thinking conversion-wise, it was horrible). Kind of like when you pay for that magazine ads ;) .

But, I’m not going to promote the webinar the same way twice, I don’t want to verify the results, I want things to be more effective and now I ruled out Facebook and LinkedIn. Next time around, I will use strickly SEO, PPC, Social Media, and Press Releases. Which, should only cost me $100-300, depending on how much I want to spend with PPC (PPC= Pay Per Click; in my case, specifically Google AdWords).

I believe my time and involvement in SEO, Social Media and Press Release will generate that other $1,300-1,500 Facebook dollars. This is partly why I strongly believe in internet marketing. It takes little money to make a significant impact. In my case, a $2,000 impact. :)

Some Feedback

I got some feedback from many of the attendees. Most were positive but one said:

Josh, you honestly suck. I hate you. You had a horrible webinar. You need to quit your day job. -You suck, J.K.

Aside from J.K., all the feedback was positive. (J.K. stands for Just Kidding, hehe) Just some tweeks and adjustments for next time.

Real feedback:

  • I need some help in grammar. :)
  • Note the questions but hold them till the end, to have focus for each question.
  • Don’t interact with the audience and get side-tracked.
  • I should’ve promoted it on Twitter more.
  • It should be transcribed and recorded (SORRY!! next time I promise)

If you have any additional suggestions, provide it. I’d love to hear it. :) Also, below is our slide show presentation. Some of it won’t make sense without you being at the webinar but I’m sure you can draw some great knowledge and stats from the presentation.
