I came across a recent study done by MailerMailer and someone’s blog post about it. The study talked about how Consumers open less email but ROI is higher. One part of the study was fancintaing for me. That is the part where 1/3 open the email within the first two hours. Then guess what? The next third take 6 months and the last third takes an entire year!

How can this information help you? By causing you to think more long term in your goals. Within the first 3 hours you’ll know, roughly, how successful your email campaign was. Times it by three but keep all those links available. If a link breaks, your loosing ROI.

If you make needed design or site architecture changes, make sure you check your email campaigns and test the links with the new design. If they return a 404 (no page available) then ruffle through your files and upload the content that was previous there.

Too many people are in for the quick fix, or fast cash, when somethings just simply take time. It takes time for people to open their emails. They might’ve subscribed to only look at it monthly. Something could’ve happened in their life that delayed their opening of the email. Whatever the reason, stay committed to your email campaigns because you’ll see the money, but over 6 months to a year.
